Why “Small Batch”

We are all drawn to this idea of something uniquely special, handcrafted, of a limited quantity, and worth experiencing.

WHAT’S IN A NAME?

The day I set out to begin writing Small Batch Discipleship, before a single word had been penned, God impressed the title of the book on my heart. You see, the concept for this book was already years in the making, and I had been asking God in prayer for months to help me find a new job so that I might be able to kick start the book writing process in between roles. In February 2018, that prayer was granted and my two week hiatus began. I went to a mentorship event early in the morning on first day of my writing holiday, the book’s content already swirling fast in my mind and begging to be written down. The book title God had already given me looked me square in the face. “Small Batch” was advertised - plain as day - on the event speaker’s coffee cup sleeve. It seemed to sparkle like the sun. Yep, I had indeed heard God correctly.

WHY SMALL BATCH?

Everything is “small batch” these days. Small batch coffee, spirits, spices, and sweets offer us a taste of something beyond the ordinary. We are all drawn to this idea of something uniquely special, handcrafted, of a limited quantity, and worth experiencing. I realize this idea of small batch goodness stretches far beyond our taste buds. God’s plan for our lives can be described in each of these ways. You too are perfectly one-of-a-kind, with a story that is just your own and a unique circle of other people around you. God has indeed crafted you by hand. Your time is of a limited quantity. And if you are a Christian, then following Jesus in a Great Commission lifestyle of small batch discipleship is worth pondering. It’s worth experiencing and giving the rest of your years to, whether one or ninety-one remain.
